Frequently asked questions

What is new in Opera 15?

An enhanced Speed Dial helps you organize your most viewed sites.
Stash saves pages for reading at a later time.
Discover recommends headlines you might like.
Off-Road mode compresses data to speed up browsing on slow connections.
A combined search and address bar lets you filter predictive results by search engine.
More changes can be found in the official changelog.

How does Opera improve performance?

Opera 15 has a new feature called Off-Road mode, which uses server-side compression to give you better browsing speeds when you are on slow connections. If you are on dial-up or pay for your internet connection by data usage, Off-Road mode compression can save you money, too.

What about security? How does Opera protect my privacy?

Opera displays security badges, which give you a quick glance at the security of a page. If the browser's Fraud and Malware Protection detects anything potentially dangerous, it will display a popup to warn you.

To ensure your privacy, there are ways you can control how websites monitor your web activities, and ways to keep your browsing habits and data private if you share a computer or account. You can manually set what information you want to share with specific sites.

You can read more about Opera's security and privacy features in our tutorials.

How do I delete items from my browsing history?

Opera keeps your history for as long or as short as you want and you can set this length of time in the browser preferences. See 'Delete private data' for more information.

To delete items from your history:

From the main menu, select 'History'.
Click the close/delete to the right of any history entry.
To delete all browsing history, including cookies and more, click the 'Clear browsing data…" button on the top-right of the page.

I love Opera! How do I make it my computer's default browser?

Setting Opera as your default browser is easy:

From the main menu, select 'Settings'.
Click 'Browser' in the sidebar.
Under 'Default browser', click the 'Make Opera my default browser' button.
What's a private window?

Private windows erase any browsing data once you close the window - history, image cache, passwords, everything. You can browse more comfortably on public computers knowing your browsing activity and passwords are removed. Plan your surprise vacation with ease. For more information about private browsing, see 'Stay secure with private browsing'.

Where's the zoom slider? How do I zoom into a page?

The zoom slider has been removed in Opera 15 to give you more screen space. You can zoom in or out from the main menu. Click the left or right arrows next to the word Zoom. Click the target to reset the page zoom to 100%.

From the keyboard you press Ctrl++ or Ctrl+-.
